The spirit of jezebel is a cunning and crafty spirit that unfortunately many people do not recognize because they only associate it as being sexually seducing or something of the sort. But it is much more than that. It manifests (shows up) in a number of ways and is one of those things that even discerning Christians can see and know that something is off… but cannot put their fingers on many times until it has gone too far. This article sheds light on recognizing and overcoming the spirit of jezebel. Knowing the truth is what makes us free.

 

I found myself praying a lot more than usual when I worked with this particular organization. I felt like I needed to begin the habit of praying more often. Then I would be prompted to pray for specific individuals and praying for some more than others — especially for those I knew who did not like me.  One of the hardest things to do is to pray for people who spitefully mistreat you. God even has a specific way for us to pray for those people and it does yield results. When you genuinely pray for someone and mean it from your heart, God begins to move on your behalf.

 

As time went on, the subject of the “jezebel” spirit kept coming up and even mentioned to me by other individuals to me who had no other contact with each other. My question became “how could so many individuals be affected in the same way and say the same things and how could the behavior of this spirt be allowed and tolerated in the workplace?” I decided to keep praying, yet while I prayed I was still not satisfied.

 

I believe that if a person knows the source of their illness, they can attack the source and healing can take place. As I digress, this is the problem with cancer. People cut out the cancer and use other harsh treatments that attack good healthy parts of the body in order to get rid of the cancer, never getting rid of what caused the cancer in the first place. And so the cancer eventually comes back because the original source of the cancer is still there.  Correct the thing that causes the cancer and you get rid of the cancer for good.

 

The jezebel spirit’s main objective is to take out/down the ministers of God by using lies, fear and intimidation to control as many victims as possible. This spirit wants to silence God’s messengers, destroy their good character, strip them of their joy and lead them to oppression. The fear and intimidation imposed on individuals can be something as simple as a person fearing what people think about them, or fear they may lose their job to something as strong as creating an environment that just feels bad. You can read about Jezebel in 1st and 2nd Kings and how she wanted to kill the prophets of God and even ordered the death of babies. She also publicly ridiculed her husband (her leader) who by the way, was very passive.

 

For the remainder of this article, we will refer to jezebel as a “she” but jezebel can be male or female. The term jezebel, is used in reference to the behaviors associated with Jezebel who was married to king Ahab mentioned in the Bible.

 

The spirit of jezebel will only dwell with those who can be controlled. Jezebel accuses others of the exact sin ‘she’ perpetrates and causes division between people. For instance if you are close buddies with someone, she will attempt to become close buddies with those individual to plant seeds of doubt against you. She hand picks her followers one by one in order to win them over and influence them. These individuals are unknowingly instrumental in helping to carry out her agenda. Jezebel operates in secrecy and uses intimidation and lies to manipulate people.

 

How to Recognize the Jezebel Spirit

I found a document online which outlines 18 characteristics of a jezebel spirit so I won’t go into detail on this page. As I read this document, I could relate to seeing those characteristics play out in the environment I was in. I was reminded that satan goes about “AS” a roaring lion looking for whoever he can devour… and so does the spirit of jezebel.

Do not allow the “fear of what people may think” to influence your actions or decisions especially if your actions or decisions are right. We must operate in boldness and stand for what is right. The jezebel spirit will challenge our right actions but we must not back down.

In the end jezebel dies a horrible death because of her refusal to repent.  The good news is that we can overcome this spirit. But we must do it ‘by‘ the spirit. I believe God wants every person delivered and He gives us all opportunity to correct ourselves. Our fight is not with specific individuals, it is with the principality that rules the individuals. Words are spirit and it is the power that we have over principalities.

 

Overcoming The Jezebel Spirit

The way to overcome a Jezebel spirit is by way of an Elijah spirit which is the opposite of the Jezebel spirit. Galatians 5:16-end tells us to walk in the Spirit and we will not give in to what the flesh wants. If we practice this, we will end up with strong mature spirits able to overcome any kind of evil. Here is how:

 

1. Read Galatians 5:16-22 to learn how the spirit of God behaves and begin to model this behavior every day. With practice, it will become second nature to us.
2. We must recognize the enemy’s tactics and not get drawn into those deceptions and tactics.
3. Elijah exposed/confronted this spirit which made jezebel even angrier and wanted him dead. We must be willing to stand up for what is right when it is necessary and to do so in love. The Bible warns those of us who are spiritual to set others straight but to also watch ourselves so that we don’t fall into sin.
4. Pray daily for individuals you recognize operating in this spirit. God will show you how to interact with those you pray for. The battle is His and not yours.
5. Resist the urge to give jezebel any power by discussing her actions with your peers. “If I am praying for you, I cannot say anything bad about you.” (James 4:7  – Submit yourself to God, resist the devil and he will flee.)
6. Praise God. Sing praises to God and remain joyful at all times, for the joy of the Lord is your strength. This is spiritual warfare.

 

PRAY THIS PRAYER

Lord, I bind every demonic work and trouble caused by the spirit of jezebel. I cast down and prohibit the assignment of jezebel against the ministers of God in the name of Jesus. I cut off and break the powers of every word released by jezebel against my life. I bind and stop jezebel’s influence and reject any participation in her plan. I cut off the assignment of jezebel and her daughters to corrupt the church and the ministers of God. I rebuke and cut off jezebel and her witchcrafts and accusations in the name of Jesus. I speak peace and restoration to the places where jezebel has caused oppression in Jesus’ name. Amen.

 

Conclusion

If we say we are Christians and we believe, we should not doubt the power of God’s word to help us to overcome any situation. I have seen a number of sincere Christians who don’t believe. We have to believe that God’s power is stronger than the enemy’s. God needs Believers in order to show His glory through them.
